Old Wive's Tales
When I found out I was pregnant for the first time I was bombarded with horror stories, wild tales and myths about pregnancy and birth. I remember my mom's  mother telling me things like "Stay away from barbed wire, because if you crawl under barbed wire your baby will be born with pot marks on it's face." "If you are frightened by a furry animal your baby will be born hairy all over." Don't take baths while pregnant or  you'll drown the baby." Shortly after she told me these things I went for a walk in the country. I deided to  take a shortcut through a huge field. During the course of that walk I got chased by a huge bull, climbed under a barbed wire fence to escape, and fell in a creek. And of course my baby turned out perfect. But I had enough sense not to tell my grandmother anything about my misadventures of that day. Why spoil the myth for her.

But, these and other stories interested me so much. From then on I began to collet them. So I thought I would share some of them here. You will also find factual history here also. If you have an article, story or legend you would like to submit to my site just let me know. I'll be happy to add it along with your name, email address and your web site address if you like. Just let me know which you prefer.
