I'VE HEARD THESE WORDS BEFORE.....HMMMMM

Many people operate in a style of denial. Their motto is
"get over it". They demand that those around them not
hold them personally accountable for their words or
actions while at the same time having little, if any,
conscious awareness of the harm that they are doing
to others.

Boundary-crashing, wise-cracking, judgments projected onto unsuspecting people who cross their path.

"Get over it" is not a motto to live by. It is not a healthy way of life. It is denial. Those who demand this of others are so far from getting over the damage and hurt in their own lives it is tragic and very sad.

If you encounter someone who implies or tell you to just "get over it" and move forward, do not take on their denial. Be true to yourself and to your feelings. Your truth and how you feel are valid.

There are some things in life that we don't just "get over". We work them through, we live with them and we do the best we can. There is nothing tolerant, caring or understanding about telling someone (or yourself) to just "get over it".

It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else's eyes.

Elizabeth Goose, who lived in Massachusetts in the late 1600's, is credited by some with the nursery rhymes read to us as children. However, most of those rhymes existed before her time in the form of satirical poems and drinking songs. Some were based on actual events or characters. Charles Perrault, a Frenchman, published a collection of these rhymes in 1697 and an illustration accompanying the text showed an old woman telling stories, with the words "Mother Goose" appearing behind her. The book was eventually published in England and the United States and more rhymes were added with each new publication. It wasn't until the 1800's that a relative of Mrs. Goose claimed the stories originated with Elizabeth.
