"Father," the little boy asked again for the second time today, "Do you love me?" With raised eyebrows, Dad glanced over his glasses from the newspaper, "Yes son, of course I love you"....and the child ran off to play.
A short time later, John reappeared and stood staring into his Dad's face. "Daddy, are you sure?" A little distracted, Dad said,"Sure of what son?" "Sure that you love me," was the concerned reply. This time Dad pulled John up onto his lap and held him close. "John, why do you doubt my love for you?" A tear rolled down little Johnny's cheek and dripped onto Dad's hand. For a moment their souls melted into a heart breaking love for each other. John's little heart so full of questions... Dad's heart, so full of love and tenderness for his son.
After a few moments of silence, with a quivering lip, little John began to speak. "Dad, I don't always do what you tell me and sometimes I make mistakes. Once I broke your favorite fishing pole and sometimes I forget to tell you goodnight...and Dad, I want to be a good boy so you will always love me" With pent-up emotions pouring out like a flood, little John broke into sobs. His tears began to mix with his Father's as they gentlyslid down his face and began to drop into their laps.
"Oh John," Dad said, as he pulled him even closer to his chest, "that is why I'm your Dad. I will always love you and I am here to teach you, son. My love doesn't change because you aren't perfect. John, Dad understands that you will make mistakes, but when you run to me we will cry over them together and I will help you to grow and learn. We all make mistakes, but I want you to come to me and sit on my lap whenever you feel you need the reassurance of my love. I am always here for you, my son, and I will always love you." With his head planted sweetly on Dad's chest, little John took a deep cleansing breath, and with a smile said, "Dad, I will always love you, too...
Happy Father's Day"
At age 47, the Rolling Stones' bassist, Bill Wyman, began a relationship with 13-year old Mandy Smith, with her mother's blessing. Six years later, they were married, but the marriage only lasted a year. Not long after, Bill's 30-year-old son Stephen married Mandy's mother, age 46. That made Stephen a stepfather to his former stepmother. If Bill and Mandy had remained married, Stephen would have been his father's father-in-law and his own grandpa.
