As I was cutting grass here in New Bern, I began asking God what was missing in my life. Why do I feel like I am not where I am suppose to be in my walk with Him? Why do I feel like I am missing something? I asked Him is there something in my life that isn't straight with Him.
He gently reminded me of my little flower garden back home. I toiled on that little garden all summer three years ago. Every time He gave me a life lesson. The first thing He taught me was on fallowed ground. The ground on that garden was hard. It took me several hours to break through it. He told me that so many people have that hard, unfertilized ground in their hearts.
I remember being so proud of myself when I finally got my garden fertilized and ready to plant flowers in it. However the rains came and weeds popped up. After the rains stopped I got on my gloves and went out there and lazily pulled out the weeds. It didn't take long before they grew back. I tried covering them up but that didn't last long either.
God told me as I stood over my garden wondering what to do, that fallowed ground is hard to break through, but it can be done. However we have to keep up the maintenance on it. We can't just pull up the weeds or cover them up with dirt, mulch or pine needles. They have to pulled by their roots. So here back in New Bern I realized that I have to keep the weeds pulled up by the roots.
I too was once fallowed and hard. I toiled for years to get the weeds out of my life. Now a few have come back. Time to get put my spade (the word of God) and get those weeds out by the roots.
So in conclusion to my little garden, I don't know how it is holding up since we moved but I am thankful that we have a merciful loving God that allows to go back and pull out the weeds from our lives and gives us time to do such.
Are their any weeds in your little garden? Is there offense, anger, unforgiveness growing unattended? Are you trying to cover them up as I did with a weak smile and a lot of meaningless amens? If so, take out your spade and dig those weeds up by the roots!
